About Bluetooth Audio Codecs

Bluetooth audio codecs are technologies used to transmit audio data wirelessly. This blog post will discuss the main types of Bluetooth audio codecs, their characteristics, and the environments they are best suited for.

SBC (Subband Coding): SBC is the standard codec for Bluetooth audio and is supported by most Bluetooth-enabled devices. It is low in complexity and cost, but the sound quality may be inferior compared to more advanced codecs. However, it provides adequate performance for everyday use.

AAC (Advanced Audio Coding): AAC is commonly used in Apple products and achieves efficient data compression while maintaining high sound quality. It is widely used in music streaming services, making it suitable for iPhone users and listeners who are sensitive to audio quality.

aptX: Developed by Qualcomm, aptX offers lower latency and higher sound quality. It is particularly suitable for music enthusiasts and video gamers, providing clearer and richer sound than SBC.

LDAC: Developed by Sony, LDAC can transmit audio at a very high bitrate, allowing for the playback of Hi-Res (High Resolution) audio. It is ideal for users who prioritize audio quality above all else.

LHDC: LHDC also supports high-resolution audio and offers performance comparable to LDAC, but it is designed for devices with broader compatibility.

Each of these codecs is optimized for specific user groups and use environments. When choosing, it is important to consider your listening habits and the type of device you use. To experience the difference in sound quality, it is recommended to use high-quality headphones that support the codec in question.
